An Implementation Model for Connection-Oriented Internet Protocols
نویسندگان
چکیده
Several research groups have recently proposed connection-oriented internet protocols that are aimed at providing a variable grade of service with performance guarantees on top of diverse networks. These connection-oriented internet protocols (COIPs) have many design and performance trade-offs. This paper presents details of a COIP-Kernel which can be used as a toolkit to implement proposed COIPs and evaluate trade-offs. COIP-K features module interchange and incremental software support. The paper presents the COIP-K design, implementation, and performance characterization.

ATM as a Link in an ST-2 Internet
ATM promises to be a broadband network that provides quality of service guarantees for real time multimedia applications. ST-2 is an experimental connection-oriented protocol that provides guaranteed support for streams across an internet of hosts and routers. We describe an implementation of an ATM network as one link in an ST-2 internet. We explain how the ST-2 owspec is mapped into an ATM ho...

Telecommunication service providers have recently begun to o er ubiquitous access to packetised data. As a result, the Internet is not limited to computers that are physically connected but is also available to users that are equipped with mobile devices. This ubiquitous access fuels the growth and the usage of the Internet even further, and thus the realisation of dynamic Internet. With the re...

This document provides advice to the designers of digital communication equipment, link-layer protocols and packet-switched local networks (collectively referred to as subnetworks) who wish to support the Internet protocols but who may be unfamiliar with the Internet architecture and the implications of their design choices on the performance and efficiency of the Internet.
متن کاملOSI connectionless transport services on top of UDP: Version 1
The Internet community has a well-developed, mature set of layered transport and network protocols, which are quite successful in offering both connection-oriented (TCP) and connectionless (UDP) transport services over connectionless network services (IP) to endusers. Many popular network applications have been built directly on top of the TCP and UDP over the past decade. These have helped the...

Loss-Free handoff in Mobile Networks is an extensive research area. Mobile IP (MIP) provided a solution to enable a mobile node to roam from one location to another while maintaining its network level connectivity. However, handoff latencies and longer triangular routing paths in MIP can severely degrade communication performance and in particular cripple connection oriented protocols like TCP....
